SPAM welcomes nominees and entries for 10th Confab

The School Press Advisers Movement, realizing its objectives to give credit to school paper advisers, student journalists and school publications who are excelling in their craft, welcomes entries for the School Press Advisers Movement Inc. Medallion of Excellence in the Field of Campus Journalism.

A. Student Journalists Category
1. The adviser or the publication of the student nominee must be a SPAM Inc. member.
2. He/she must be a bona fide member of the school publication for the SY 2016-2017.
3. He/she must be of proven integrity and competence as recommended by any two (2) from among the following school administrators:
1. School President/Director/Principal,
2. Head/Director/Dean of Student Affairs and/or,
3. Vice President for Academic Affairs.
4. He/she must have a substantial social involvement as a campus journalist and have proven to
exercise/advocate responsible campus journalism.
5. He/she must have won local, regional, or national campus journalism contests.
6. He/she must have manifested notable leadership skills in the publication.

B. Campus Paper Adviser Category
1. He/she must be a SPAM Inc. member.
2. He/she must have an appointment paper/ recommendation/designation as a campus paper adviser from the school administration (to be included in the nominee’s portfolio).
3. He/she must have been a school paper adviser for at least three years in any institution where he/she has rendered services.
4. He/she must be of proven integrity and competence as recommended by the School President/Director/Principal.
5. He/she must have served as a trainer or a coach in any journalistic training endeavor (inter-school, division, regional, and national).

C. Student Publication Category
1. The publication or adviser must be a SPAM Inc. member.
2. The publication must have won in local, regional, or national campus journalism contests.
3. The publication must manifest integrity, staff enterprise, editorial independence, decency and excellent management techniques.
4. Its content must be campus and student-centered, lack of sensationalism, impact of development community coverage in the area/community must be clear and accurate, has visual appeal, strong editorial page, comprehensive coverage, and excellent writing.

The screening committee for the said awards will be headed by Dr. Melanie V. Briones, President of SPAM, Inc.

Deadline of submission of creative portfolios will be on September 20, 2016 thru the name and address below:

Finalists will be notified through the contact information provided in the nomination form on October 10, 2016. Finalists and winners who will fail to pre-register in the confab will be disqualified from this recognition.

Additional Guidelines:
1. The work should be done within 2 hours. If the contestant will not be able to finish it within the required time, he still needs to finish it, but it will already be considered disqualified.
2. The contestants are not supposed to bring premade artworks or any comic books that can be used as reference.
3. All works and concepts should be an original of the contestant.
4. Mobile phones or any gadgets are not allowed to be used during the contest time.

SPAM to hold 10th Confab in Naga

SPAM NAGAThe School Press Advisers Movement (SPAM) Inc. is happy to announce the conduct of its 10th Annual National Media Conference, 7th National Journalism Quiz Bee: Pambansang Pautakang Pampahayagan, 4th I-Dokumento and 4th Inter-Cultural Exchange which will be held at Regent Hotel, Naga City on October 26-28, 2016.

This year’s theme is “Exhibiting Gender Sensitivity through Ethical and Responsible Campus Journalism.”
The confab aims to recognize the excellent services of campus journalists and advisers; hone their talents, and provide them with the recent trends in campus journalism.
